I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and for those who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas. I’m spending some time with my family and working on a few new things for the new year. I’ll keep you posted on how things are going.
The holidays are in full swing around here, so I haven’t had as much time to blog lately. It’s my goal to make all of my Christmas gifts this year, and with Christmas less than two weeks away I’m beginning to feel the crunch.
I plan to make a batch of Beer soap today that will be ready by the end of the week.
I just received a new order of fragrance and essential oils from Bramble Berry yesterday. I should have a few new scents available just after the New Year. I also plan to add 100% cotton hand knit and crocheted washcloths to my shop in a few weeks as well.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend. My husband, son and I just hung out at home with a giant pot of homemade gumbo and some sweet potato pie. Our neighbor did a turkey dinner and we swapped some left-overs, so our Thanksgiving wasn’t totally turkey-less.
While my husband was doing his daily Craigslist search, he came across a free Barbie Power Wheels Jeep that we decided was worth getting for my son (no, the jeep isn’t all pink, just the wheels) to see if we could fix it. We got it running, and two year old has been loving it ever since. We’re considering it an early Christmas present.
For those of you looking for great holiday gifts, I have a few suggestions from my shop. Newly listed this weekend are some beautiful vintage snowflake earrings. The earrings are clip-on, which can be hard to find in stores anymore.
And because I can’t post about much of anything without at least mentioning soap, I have a wonderful Frankincense and Myrrh scented soap listed in my shop. I love it’s warm, spicy scent, especially for the winter. For reading through all of this randomness, I think you deserve a prize. Post a comment here about anything you want. If you can’t think of anything, post something you’re thankful for. Everyone who comments between now and midnight CST on Friday, December 5th will get 5% off your total purchase from my shop. Just enter “Holiday Blog” and your blogger name in the notes to seller at checkout and I’ll send you a refund through PayPal. (Discount good through December 15th, 2008)
Many fishermen swear that the scent of licorice attracts fish. You don’t have to fish or be a fish to enjoy the mildly sweet aroma of this soap, however. A combination of anise and fennel infused oils and anise oil give it a licorice scent that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. The aloe juice and added aloe gel will make your skin clean and happy, too!
October is customer appreciation month in my SubEarthan Cottage etsy shop. Every customer this month will receive a coupon code (minimum 10% off) good towards your next purchase and a free surprise sample.
I just listed a new version of my chamomile and lavender soap in my shop. This one is formulated without the soybean oil to produce a firmer bar. I’ve used a generous amount of lavender fragrance oil and lavender buds to increase the scent. Cocoa butter is also included to make the bar more moisturizing.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business: I’m a 23 year old crafting mom to a 3 year old little girl. I work full-time at a local college, and spend my spare time between my crafting business and my daughter’s football team. Starting in the Spring, I will also be a college student again!
What made you get started in your business?: I started crafting when I was 6. I was a pretty sick kid and my mom was very crafty. She taught me to cross-stitch and craft to entertain myself instead of watching television while I was home from school. I started crafting as a business when people started seeing my handmade gifts at Christmas and holidays. It never failed that people would ask how much I would charge for something, calling me to make gifts for them, and eventually I just started doing it on a constant basis.
Anything else you’d like to share:
I think my favorite part of crafting is knowing that somebody is getting something completely unique, designed just for them. The looks on their faces or thank-you notes I recieve make my day and keep me going. Another thing that keeps me going is the Cafemom Etsy Moms Team, also known as CEM. They are the most supportive group of crafting girls I’ve ever met, and it’s an absolute pleasure to be involved with them.
us about your favorite item currently listed in your shop: My current favorite item is my Double Tie Tutu Dress. I love tutu dresses in general because there are so many options. They can be princess-esque, fairy themed, have a punk/rocker baby look, along with a variety of accents and colors. I really enjoy the fact that every creation can be completely different than the last, despite the same basic shape.
My Favorite from Shai’s Creations: Shai has so many cute hair clips and dresses that it almost makes me want to grab my husband and start trying for a daughter. For those of you who already have a little girl, you should really check out her shop. My favorite is her Custom Tutu Dress. Like many other offerings in her shop, it is totally customizable, but to be quite honest, I’m rather partial to the red and black.
