I was walking through my favorite thrift store one day when I heard sobbing from one of the linen bins. Concerned, I dug down to find a single kelly-green print napkin, possibly a poly-blend, although I really don’t know, weeping desperately.
“Why are you so sad?” I inquired of the lonely napkin.
“I’m all alone. My siblings are gone. Sally was lost on a picnic. Marsha ran off with an argyle sock. And Tina,” she choked, “let’s just say it was a horrible accident involving a mean little terrier. Now I’m alone and unloved. Who would want one lonely napkin like me?”
“Have no fear, little napkin!” I draped a vintage Star Wars bedsheet around my shoulders and struck my best campy Batman pose. “I’ll save you! Come home with me. When I’m finished with you, you’ll have five new friends and loads of admirers clamoring to adopt all of you. You will once again be useful, this time protecting coffee tables and credenzas from unsightly watermarks.”
“Oh, thank you, you crafty caped crusader!” the napkin gushed. “You are my hero”
Okay, so maybe I embellished the story a little bit. Just a little. (It was a plain pink bedsheet.)
Truthfully, though, the little rescued napkin is eager to serve you in it’s new life as a set of six 3.25 inch (8.26 cm) square, lightweight fleece lined coasters.
